5 Restaurants in Walhalla, SC You Have to Try

Sharing is caring!

While this may be a small town, there are some great restaurants in Walhalla, SC that you should put on your list when visiting.

Whether you’re on the hunt for a good sandwich, southern cooking, burgers, or pizza you can find it here!

Just a note on hours of operation – this is constantly changing for many places especially in small towns. Make sure to double-check when restaurants will be open and don’t always trust Google. Try to check Google, Facebook, and if you aren’t sure just call them.

My two top picks were Carolina Pizza Co. and Trailhead Tavern but there were a few places on my list I didn’t have time to try!

5 Restaurants in Walhalla, SC (Plus a Bonus!)

While you’re checking out the fun things to do in Oconee County, stop in at some of these local restaurants to fuel up for all your outdoor adventures!

Note: Since my last visit, two of my favorite restaurants closed – Gather Uptown and The Hungry Hiker.

1. Steph’s Steaks

philly cheesesteak and chips

If you are in the mood for a cheesesteak then look no further. I had the Supreme Steak which came with onions and mixed peppers and it was delicious.

All the sandwiches are served with a bag of chips but I wound up being too full to eat mine so I took them to go.

This is one of the only restaurants I went to where you walk up to the counter and order before sitting down.

2. Bantam Chef

This drive-thru-only restaurant has been a staple in the community for years. If you want a cheeseburger, then this is where the locals go.

During lunch time the line will be wrapped around the building so you may want to plan accordingly and try to miss the lunch hour traffic.

The food is great though and prices are even better so it’s understandable why people keep coming back.

3. Carolina Pizza Co.

I came to a pizza place and did not get the pizza. But let me tell you, their TBA sandwich was perfection.

Their sandwich bread was crisp on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside. The TBA stood for turkey, bacon, and avocado but there was also lettuce, mayo, onions, and tomato on the sandwich.

Just what I needed after a long day hiking. They also serve a number of different craft brews and I have it on good authority that they have fantastic pizza.

If the name sounds familiar, they also have a location in Boone, NC. Come check out the Highcountry of NC and I love visiting all the wineries near Boone too!

4. Trailhead Tavern

cheeseburger and fries from one of the restaurants in Walhalla, SC

If the weather is nice then you really can’t beat a meal on the patio at Trailhead. They have plenty of beer, great burgers, and a good selection of appetizers if you’re with a group.

Tyler got a burger when we stopped by and I couldn’t stop eating his fries – the seasoning on them was addicting.

I had a late lunch that day so all I got was the guacamole. It was chunky and super fresh so I was a happy camper.

Back to their patio though – they have a large, fenced-in grassy area with axe-throwing, darts, Jenga, and cornhole! It would be super fun to come out here with friends to hang out.

5. Steak House Cafeteria

Okay, in the words of Lana (my tour guide) this is the famous “Steak House” with no steak. They’re known for their fried chicken actually.

If you want a meat and three though, this is your place. It’s served cafeteria style so you know you’re gonna get some good, southern cooking.

You can keep up with their menu on their Facebook page where they post what they’re having for the day.

BONUS: The Gauge/Humble Pie – Long Creek, SC

sausage, egg, and cheese bagel

Since this one isn’t in Walhalla I thought I would add it as a bonus because I definitely didn’t want to leave it out.

The Gauge is a coffee shop out in the Long Creek community that serves breakfast sandwiches and the bagels are made from the same dough as their pizza dough!

I was super impressed. Plus they have some picnic tables outside where you can sit in the mornings before it gets too hot.

Humble Pie is right next door and their specialty is pizza. It’s the perfect stop after a rafting trip or if you’re hiking to some of the waterfalls near Walhalla.

Wrap Up: Restaurants in Walhalla, SC

As you can see, there really are some great restaurants in Walhalla! These were just a few that I was able to try while I was in town, but I know I didn’t make it to them all.

I spent half my time visiting the restaurants in Seneca too. Choosing which restaurants to visit while traveling is always one of the hardest things to do. I want to try them all!

Is there a restaurant that you would add to this list? Let me know in the comments!
