Best Breakfast in Downtown Asheville, NC (& North Asheville)
All of these spots are located in downtown Asheville or on the north side of the city. If you don’t see one that you were expecting, it may be listed in another section. Many breakfast restaurants in Asheville have multiple locations.
Breakfast is one of the best meals in this popular mountain town in NC!
1. Tupelo Honey

Known for their mouth-watering fried chicken, you can enjoy an amazing breakfast in the heart of downtown Asheville. Chicken & waffles anyone?
They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and their patio overlooks Pritchard Park. The city has done a lot to clean up the park over the last few months so it’s really bustling now!
I loved sitting out on their patio and enjoying the nice weather. If you’re solo, they do have bar seating as well. I would recommend making reservations if you have a group – especially on weekends!
On their Brunch All Day menu you’ll find things like the “old skool” breakfast bowl, bacon & sausage cast iron scramble, and fried chicken & biscuit.
Southern Style Eggs Benedict dishes are served on Saturdays and Sundays. This is one of the most popular brunch spots in Asheville so again, make a reservation if you’re visiting on the weekend!
2. Jerusalem Garden Café (Brunch Only)
Jerusalem Garden Café has been a family-run restaurant for over two decades. Offering a unique blend of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, this café is a must-visit if you love international flavors.
Sitting across from Pritchard Park, the café provides beautifully decorated indoor seating, as well as a small outdoor patio.
While you’ll only find brunch here on Saturdays and Sundays, they are known for putting a creative twist on traditional dishes.
Try their innovative renditions of classic items like the Fried Chicken + Biscuit and French Toast or if you’re adventurous, go for the Shakshuka or Lamb & Eggs.
3. The Med

Stepping into The Med is like stepping back in time – it’s an Asheville tradition.
This beloved diner, which has been serving breakfast and lunch to locals and visitors alike for over half a century, has a first come, first served seating policy so get there early.
Whether you’re craving a traditional breakfast plate or pancakes, or want something a little more jazzed up, The Med has you covered.
You can find breakfast bowls like their Hash Bowl, egg scrambles, and even a filling breakfast burrito.
The timeless charm of this diner, combined with its mouth-watering menu, makes it a must-visit for breakfast in downtown Asheville. Fuel up before heading out on a waterfall hike!
4. Isa’s French Bistro
Isa’s French Bistro is the cutest restaurant with its bright blue door, red umbrellas, and black & white awnings located at the heart of downtown.
Many of the walking tours in Asheville pass by Isa’s Bistro and point it out as a local landmark because of how cute and recognizable the exterior is.
With complimentary valet service through the Haywood Park Hotel and the movie-worthy restaurant, you’ll feel like royalty dining here.
On Saturdays and Sundays, you can order brunch favorites like the Chicken & French Toast and the Bistro Hash Skillet. Don’t miss out on their Mimosa flights either!
During the week, if you’re in need of a quick bite, the Café at Isa’s Bistro serves breakfast daily with a range of scratch-made pastries and coffee from Dynamite Roasters in nearby Black Mountain.
5. All Day Darling

Nestled in the beautiful Montford neighborhood, All Day Darling is the perfect spot for grabbing breakfast in Asheville at any time of day.
This cozy nook offers a vibrant and comfortable atmosphere with its colorful seating and adorable patio partially shaded by trees.
During warm weather, the cafe has large roll-up windows that they open to bring the outdoors in.
The counter service makes things fast and efficient, I visited during lunch time on a weekday but my food came out within 10 minutes of ordering.
Along with a full menu where you’ll find unique offerings like their Breakfast Bowl with kale and market veggies or Shakshuka, they also offer pastries and a great coffee bar.
They do also serve traditional items like a breakfast plate and breakfast sandwich.
I tried the Fried Chicken Biscuit and oh my goodness, it was one of my favorites! The biscuit was made with herbs that gave it a nice flavor and blended so well with the honey and Harissa aioli it was topped with.
I met a friend here who ordered their Breakfast Bowl which comes with two poached eggs, beans, kale, chimichurri, market veggies, and toasted seeds. She also loved her meal!
6. Liberty House Coffee & Café
Located in a charming 1920s cottage on the north side of town, Liberty House Coffee & Café offers some of the best breakfast in town, but it’s also one of the best coffee shops in Asheville.
Its large outdoor patio is the perfect place to start your morning, and the service here is always friendly and quick.
Fan favorites include the hearty sourdough pancakes, mouth-watering breakfast sandwich, and refreshing avocado toast that will kickstart your day on a high note.
The weekend brunch menus change weekly and you can find out what’s available on their Facebook page.
7. The Rhu

Tucked away on a side street in downtown Asheville, The Rhu welcomes you with an inviting and cozy atmosphere. It has minimal seating downstairs, but there’s an upstairs space that offers additional seating spots.
Counter-service is the only thing available here but there is a small market area where you can browse local items while you wait to order and then on your food.
They have a great selection of coffee drinks with house-made syrups and there are always new monthly specials to try.
The breakfast menu is on the smaller side but still offers plenty of choices for a variety of tastes. You’ll find an assortment of breakfast sandwiches, biscuits, and quiche to compliment their huge selection of pastries.
8. Café Bomba
Bringing a lively taste of Latin cuisine to Asheville, Café Bomba offers a fresh, seasonal menu that changes to best showcase local ingredients at their peak.
The café boasts a cozy interior with limited indoor seating, which is more than compensated by their inviting outdoor patio, with umbrellas for shade.
Known for popular Latin dishes like Huevos Rancheros and Arepa Perico, Café Bomba also caters to the health-conscious with lighter options like a refreshing fruit & granola bowl and oatmeal.
You’ll also find amazing brunch cocktails and specialty coffees on the menu – perfect way to start the day with breakfast in Asheville.
This is also a great spot to grab breakfast before you head out on one of the tours in Asheville!
Best Breakfast in West Asheville, NC
There are some truly fun spots for breakfast in West Asheville. While Sunny Point is probably the most well-known, there are a few others you should try as well!
9. Sunny Point Café

Sunny Point Café is a gem of West Asheville and is particularly well-known for its delicious breakfast offerings.
This spot can get crowded, especially on weekends, since it’s one of the most popular breakfast places in the area.
Don’t worry though, if there’s a long wait, you can order drinks and walk through the beautiful gardens at The Rabbit Hole Bakery next door.
Their indoor seating area is small but they have a large outdoor patio that’s shaded and so nice when the weather is right.
When it comes to their menu, the fried chicken & waffle sandwich, shrimp & grits, and breakfast burrito are crowd favorites.
I had the breakfast burrito when I visited and it filled me up all day!
10. Regina’s
Regina’s is a great spot in West Asheville with a retro vibe that opened its doors in the summer of 2023.
From the outside, it doesn’t seem like much, but step inside and you’ll love the whole experience from the atmosphere to the food.
Regina’s has mastered the art of elevated comfort food, serving up favorites like biscuits & gravy, chicken & waffles, and fantastic breakfast sandwiches that will have you coming back for more.
11. Tastee Diner

This old-school spot was established in 1946 and has been serving up delicious food ever since. While the decor might be a blast from the past, the food is unique with some reimagined classics so this place just might surprise you.
You can find traditional breakfast sandwiches and plates here but you can also get things like Fried Chicken N Grits or Smoked Pork N Congee.
The French Broad Chocolate French Toast and Chicken & Pancake (yes, pancake, not waffle) are fan favorites also.
In addition to their indoor space, they have some different outdoor seating options including picnic tables.
12. Tiger Bay Cafe
Across the French Broad, Tiger Bay Cafe is serving up some of the best breakfast in Asheville. They are located in the same building as Battlecat Coffee so order your food and get your coffee fix at the same place.
Known for their breakfast bagel, panini, and burrito, they offer a variety of options to please anyone.
This is a counter-service spot and your food will be served in to-go containers. There is some indoor seating but you can also take advantage of their eclectic outdoor seating area.
13. Hole Doughnuts

If you want a sweet treat for breakfast, then do not miss Hole Doughnuts. These amazing little things are light and fluffy on the inside with just the right crunch on the outside.
The Vanilla Glaze is their specialty (and the one I tried) but they also serve toasted almond sesame, cinnamon sugar, and a seasonal flavor as well as beignets.
You can watch them make the doughnuts right there in front of you too which is fun. They only have a few drink options – coffee, milk, and sometimes tea and orange juice but they also have self-serve water.
This is the perfect spot to grab and go for breakfast – as long as you hit it at the right time. If you’re in a real hurry then you can order online and pick up on your way.
14. Taco Billy
Breakfast tacos anyone?
At Taco Billy, you can grab a seat inside or take advantage of their funky outdoor space with colorful picnic tables.
As for the food, you can go with one of their basics like the Billy Holiday (sausage, egg, & cheese) or Billy Joel (bacon, egg, & cheese) or try something with a bit more to it.
Their Migas Taco is a local favorite with eggs, onions, jalapeños, tomatoes, tortilla strips, and cheese. Breakfast tacos are served all day here.
Taco Billy is also one of the newest restaurants in Black Mountain, as they recently opened a location there.
Breakfast near Biltmore Estate
Sadly, there aren’t a ton of local places for breakfast near Biltmore Estate. There are chains like First Watch and Bruegger’s Bagels but I like to focus on places you can’t eat elsewhere.
The two options listed below are the closest to the Biltmore Estate entrance other than the restaurants at the Biltmore. None of the other restaurants on this list are too far though.
15. Well-Bred Bakery & Cafe

There are four Well-Bred locations in Western North Carolina and two of those are in Asheville. The Biltmore Village location is adorable with so many treats to choose from.
They always have an extensive pastry selection from cookies and scones to danishes and muffins. Don’t forget the delicious cakes and pies – yes, you can eat those for breakfast. It’s vacation!
They also have a few savory options like an egg & cheese croissant, breakfast burrito, and quiche.
You can’t go wrong whatever you get at this award-winning bakery.
16. Corner Kitchen
Corner Kitchen is now serving brunch daily and I am here for it.
With starters like Watermelon Gazpacho and Biltmore Berry Crumb Cake, you know the menu will be inventive.
There are so many fantastic dishes on the menu like their Corned Beef Hash, Shrimp N Grits, and of course, Chicken N’ Waffles.
One truly unique part of Corner Kitchen – it’s located in a house that was built in 1895 as part of Biltmore Village.
Breakfast in South Asheville
If you plan on spending the day hiking out near Brevard, then grabbing breakfast in South Asheville on your way out of town is a great plan.
17. Early Girl Eatery

Early Girl Eatery is a must-visit for breakfast in Asheville. They even have three convenient locations – Downtown, West, and South Asheville.
Known for their scratch-made food, this popular spot offers a dog-friendly patio so you can bring your furry friend.
Their breakfast is served all day and you’ll find a wide variety, but the standout favorites are the biscuit french toast and the Bow to the King.
I had a tough time deciding between the two but went with the Bow to the King and was very happy with that choice.
The cinnamon-battered buttermilk biscuits and house-made whipped cream satisfied my sweet tooth while the fried chicken tenders balanced out the meal.
18. Green Sage Café
If you’re on the hunt for nutritious, wholesome meals, don’t skip Green Sage Café. With three convenient locations – Downtown, South, and Merrimon – it’s easy to get to and the service is quick.
Green Sage lives by its motto, “eat pure food”, so they focus on healthy options and offer a variety of breakfast options catered to all dietary needs.
You can start your day with a hearty breakfast plate or go with one of their delicious sandwiches or wholesome bowls.
The café’s focus on healthy alternatives doesn’t mean that flavor is compromised; each dish is crafted using fresh, locally sourced ingredients for a delicious start to your day.
They also serve all kinds of coffee drinks, pressed juices, and even power smoothies.
19. Biscuit Head

For cathead biscuits smothered in all kinds of goodness, you’ll want to visit Biscuit Head. Their basic dishes are biscuits & gravy with your choice of gravy. They have five different types.
For something a little more unique, you can order one of their special dishes like The Filthy Animal or their Southern Scramble.
I went with The Filthy Animal – Buttermilk biscuit, fried chicken, pimento cheese, bacon, scrambled eggs smothered in gravy. It was out of this world.
If you’re taking one of the Asheville hiking tours, this will fill you up and keep you satisfied for most of the day.
Don’t miss their Biscuit Donuts either.
They also have an extensive selection of sides and jams to choose from to uplevel your biscuits.
They have three different locations in Asheville but all serve the same menu. In addition to their south Asheville location, they have one in West Asheville and one near the hospital.
20. Abeja’s House Café
Located in South Asheville, Abeja’s House Café is a hidden gem that offers a blend of healthy, hearty breakfast options with a Latin flair.
Their Huevos Rancheros are a crowd favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, from their French Toast to the breakfast sandwiches.
One major plus – they make all their baked goods and desserts in-house so if you have a sweet tooth, it will be satisfied here.
There is indoor seating available but only one table for outdoor seating so keep that in mind. This is truly an underrated spot for breakfast in Asheville!
