In downtown Boone, you’ll find Lost Province Brewing Gastropub. Described as a “destination microbrewery and gastropub,” visitors can enjoy authentic craft beer and delicious wood-fired food.

A word of warning: the pizza at Last Province is insanely good. The crust is the perfect thickness, it’s always cooked well, and the ingredients are fresh.

The service can be a bit slow on busier days — but the food’s worth the wait! On weekends you’ll want to get there early as this place gets super crowded.

They only take reservations for large groups between 12 – 19 people so it takes a little bit of luck to get in there on busy days.

Inside you’ll find two levels of seating and on their second level they have an outdoor patio with a view of Howard’s Knob. Dogs are allowed on their patio.

Visiting the breweries in town is one of the best things to do in Boone, NC.

2. Red Onion Cafe

If you’re a first-time visitor, give their Mixed Game Grill a try so you get a bit of everything. The last time I visited The Gamekeeper, it included ostrich sausage and I believe antelope.

Finish off your meal with their bourbon bread pudding or salted caramel tart. This meal is on the more expensive side, but this quaint joint, tucked amongst the ferns, popular and maples is well worth it.

The Gamekeeper has been a AAA Four Diamond Dining Experience since 2007 so it really doesn’t get much better than this.

4. Dan’l Boone Inn

Dan’l Boone Inn is the place where you’ll find your southern classics, like country ham, fresh stewed apples, and fried chicken. Not only is the food reasonably priced but it’s delicious and served quickly by friendly wait staff.

The food is served family style so it comes out in big dishes and you pass everything around. The meal includes a small bowl of dessert at lunch and dinner for each person too.

If you’re short on time then this is not the place you want to stop. A meal here is meant to be enjoyed slowly while you spend time talking with family or friends.

They only take reservations for groups of 15 or more so you’ll likely have to wait at peak times. This is by far one of the best restaurants in Boone though so if you can be patient, it’s worth it.

I’ve only eaten their bagels because they are just so good I can’t bring myself to order anything else. They also put plenty of cream cheese on them, which I love.

Located in east Boone, the Booneshine Brewing Company is a destination craft brewery, restaurant, and tasting room. If you’re looking for a great family-friendly experience, this is the place for you.

Even friendly doggos can visit the outdoor space if they’re well behaved. Their food menu includes many sharable plates plus flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, and burgers.

There’s always a great selection of beers to try out and on nice days you can enjoy their beer garden. They have a food truck open on certain days serving sandwiches and BBQ if you don’t want to wait on a sit-down meal.

8. The Beacon Butcher Bar
