10 Wineries Near Asheville, NC to Add to Your List

You’re in the right place!

Many of the wineries in and surrounding Asheville offer picturesque vineyard settings, a variety of wine tasting experiences, and fun events throughout the year.

As a born and raised North Carolinian who loves visiting local wineries, I’ve been to many of our mountain wineries and sampled their product. 😉

Wineries in Asheville, NC

There are only a handful of wineries in Asheville itself – you’ll find way more breweries in Asheville than you will wineries. However, there are some great options if you don’t want to get out of the city! Add some of these to your weekend itinerary.

1. Biltmore Winery

I have to be 100% honest – I didn’t have a great experience at the Biltmore Winery and that colors my judgement a bit. I prefer a laid-back tasting – I am not a serious wine connoisseur. However, this could be totally dependent on the person you have leading your tasting.

The Biltmore Winery is the most visited winery in the US, so they are obviously doing something right.

A visit to the winery is included in your purchase of a daytime ticket to the Biltmore House. The only other way to visit the winery is if you have an annual pass or you stay at one of the Biltmore properties.

Reservations aren’t required to visit the winery for your complimentary tasting. This is held in their tasting room at individual stations that you’ll have to yourself.

They have an option for a Red Wine & Chocolate Pairing Tasting for an additional charge. Try to book in advance as they limit the capacity.

Another option for trying Biltmore Wines is to visit their Wine Bar that’s also located in Antler Hill Village. It does not require reservations either, but you cannot get a complimentary tasting here.

You can purchase flights, wine by the glass, and charcuterie plates. The Tasting Room and Wine Bar are both beautiful and elegant spaces.

2. Plēb Urban Winery

Plēb uses locally sourced grapes to produce small-batch wine and their tasting room is located in the River Arts District so you know it has a funky and unique vibe.

They offer a variety of pre-selected flights that you can taste from the comfort of your table. These range from your typical white & red flights to sparkling and an experimental flight.

You can also order wine by the glass plus bottled wine or beer. They also offer draft beer, some non-alcoholic options, and a few snacks. On Saturday & Sunday afternoons, Mean Pies Pizza is open for you to grab a pizza if you’re hungry.

Weekly Trivia is held here on Sunday and they have a variety of events throughout the year like yoga and comedy shows so make sure to check their event calendar.

3. Marked Tree Asheville

Marked Tree Vineyard is located out near Hendersonville, but they opened a tasting room in the Aloft Hotel in downtown Asheville.

The wines here are truly fantastic if you are a dry wine drinker – I didn’t try a bad one. My favorites were their reds, but I’m partial to reds always.

Seating is a bit tight in the wine bar. There is some bar seating, a skinny table in the middle of the room with barstools, and a long couch lining the opposite side of the room that offers seating.

They offer wine tastings, wine by the glass, beer, and local snacks like a charcuterie board, hummus, and truffles from The Chocolate Fetish.

Wineries Near Asheville, NC

There are many wineries near Hendersonville and a few more in the mountains surrounding Asheville that are worth a drive.

They offer gorgeous views and serene settings so make it a day trip!

4. Burntshirt Vineyards

Burntshirt has two different locations near Asheville – the flagship in Hendersonville and their satellite location at Chimney Rock.

The Hendersonville location has a very cozy tasting room with a large patio area and a new restaurant on-site. This is a beautiful place to grab a glass of wine and walk through the vines. They offer a nice variety of wines depending on what you like.

Their Chimney Rock location is impressive with a patio that gives you a view of Hickory Nut Falls – a very popular waterfall near Asheville.

The inside has a luxury cabin feel with towering ceilings and large wooden beams spanning the space.

They offer guided tastings, pre-selected flights, and wine by the glass or bottle unless you visit on a busy weekend when they do limit some of their services (tastings/flights) depending on the crowd.

If you want to visit multiple wineries in a day, head to the Hendersonville location. If you want to check out Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure, then go to the Chimney Rock location.

5. Addison Farms Vineyard

A short drive from downtown Asheville, you’ll find Addison Farms Vineyard, a family-owned gem tucked away in the mountains. This fourth-generation family farm produces small-batch wines so you never know what you might find here.

Reservations are required for either of their tasting options and you can make those on their website. The Guided Tasting lets you sample their available wines. For a more immersive experience, consider the Winemaker’s Tour & Tasting.

The winemaker Jeff Frisbee takes you on a behind-the-scenes tour that ends with a tasting so you’ll learn all about the vineyard and their process.

Once you finish your tasting, you can relax in their stunning tasting room or enjoy the views outside if it’s a nice day.

Pro tip – Uber and Lyft users will need to prearrange your pickup time. It’s difficult to get an Uber once you’re out at the winery.

6. Point Lookout Vineyard

If you love stunning mountain views, good food, and unique wines, then Point Lookout is your place. While they have plenty of traditional wines to try, they also have unique options like a coffee-infused red wine.

The vineyard and tasting room is situated with gorgeous views on either side and this is one of the best sunset spots near Asheville.

There is plenty of room outside to hang out and they have an open-air tasting room but they do close it in during the colder months.

In addition to wine, they also produce mead so you can get flights of either wine or mead when you come. They are also sold by the glass or bottle.

Pizza and snack foods are served from the kitchen so this is a great spot if you’re also hungry. The tasting room is absolutely beautiful as it’s built from huge wooden beams with a large fireplace in the middle.

7. Stone Ashe Vineyard

Reservations are highly recommended here as it’s a small-batch winery near Asheville and gets incredibly busy on the weekends.

The tasting room is modern with a little splash of farmhouse decor. You can order flights or wine by the glass or bottle, and they have some local snack items to choose from as well.

This is the perfect spot for a romantic afternoon or a girl’s trip – no one under 21 is allowed at the vineyard.

They also have a beautiful view here and there are heaters outside for the colder months as there is limited indoor seating.

If you are a dry wine drinker like I am, then you’ll love this one.

8. Saint Paul Mountain Vineyard

Established in 2008, Saint Paul was the first winery in Henderson County. The rustic tasting room and dog-friendly patio offer great views of the rolling hills.

They have almost 30 different wines and ciders to choose from, including their award-winning Laurel Hill which took home NC Best in Show one year.

You may have heard about their unique “test tube tasting” where the wines are served in test tubes which I think is so fun.

You’ll also find a selection of cheese, meats, and crackers, as well as occasional food trucks. Their live music events are popular, so arrive early on weekends to grab a spot!

9. Linville Falls Winery

Head out on a hike to Linville Falls and then visit the nearby winery for a perfect day trip from Asheville.

Linville Falls Winery has a Tuscan-inspired tasting room where they host live music almost every weekend in the warmer months.

They have a wide variety of wine so it’s great for groups who may have different tastes. You can purchase flights, glasses, or a bottle here.

Each time I’ve visited on the weekend, they were incredibly busy but the wine is well worth it. Bring a picnic blanket just in case all the tables are taken.

You can bring your own food in as well but they also have a few snack items for sale.

10. Silver Fork Winery

Down the mountain in Morganton, you’ll find the very popular western NC winery – Silver Fork. The tasting room is adorable but the views here of the South Mountains are really something else.

I highly recommend trying to visit during nice weather so you can enjoy a picnic from the patio or other outdoor seating area.

They serve wine flights or you can purchase by the glass or bottle. On Saturdays, they only offer wine by the glass or bottle. Currently, all of their wines are dry.

This is the perfect stop if you are exploring South Mountains State Park or Lake James State Park and want to grab some wine in the afternoon.

They have live music often (even in winter) and food trucks on the weekends. You’ll also find some cheese, crackers, and other snack items for sale here.

Best Winery Tour in Asheville

If you want to visit multiple wineries in a day but don’t have a designated driver, The Regal Ride is a fantastic option for small or large groups.
