4 Best St. Thomas Food Tours on the Island
One of my favorite things to do when traveling is try local cuisine, so you know when I went to the USVI, I was looking for the best St. Thomas food tours.
I’ve been multiple times now and every time, I love trying new and delicious foods from seafood to conch fritters to fungi. You can’t forget their famous drinks like the Painkiller either.
The best way to try local cuisine from off the beaten path spots is by taking a food tour in Charlotte Amalie. Tyler and I did this on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it!
We took the Food Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour with St. Thomas Food Tours and were super happy, but the top-rated tour is the Flavors of St. Thomas Tour by Flavors Food Tours.
If you want something a little more unique, there is even an island-hopping food tour!

4 Best St. Thomas Food Tours
Here are four different options for food tours in St. Thomas. Three of them are led in Charlotte Amalie while the fourth takes you around the Caribbean waters to some unique spots.
These are some of the best tours in St. Thomas so I highly recommend taking one!
1. Flavors of St. Thomas
Flavors Food Tours started in Puerto Rico and branched out into the St. Thomas market in 2016. They’ve been serving happy customers ever since.
You’ll get to sample the island’s rich culinary heritage while also soaking in its vibrant culture and stunning sights.
Over the course of three hours, you’ll visit up to five different restaurants, each offering a unique dish that contributes to the diverse culinary landscape of the USVI. Try things like curried chicken, fungi, and island slaw.
The tour also includes two delicious rum cocktails, and you’ll even get to learn how to make them yourself.
As you move from one location to the next, you’ll also see top attractions in St. Thomas like the 99 Steps, Hotel 1829, and Fort Christian while your guide tells you more about each of them.
This food tour can accommodate certain dietary restrictions but not all so if you have special dietary needs, be sure to confirm before booking.

2. Food Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour
This is the tour that my husband and I took and we got super lucky – we were the only ones on the tour! Everything from our guide, Gerard, to the food to the history and unique stops that were pointed out was fantastic.
We got to try Tropical cool tea, quiche, calalloo soup, fungi, pate, and conch fritters but the restaurants they visit vary for each tour. One drink is included on the tour as well.
It was fun to try dishes that I wouldn’t normally order from the menu and visit restaurants that I hadn’t heard of before even though I’ve been to the island multiple times.
The tour lasts 2.5 – 3 hours and plan to walk up to a mile. It’s a great way to explore Charlotte Amalie and a must-do on your St. Thomas itinerary!

3. Cultural Walking Tour with Local Treats
At 1.5 hours, this tour is much shorter than the others and focuses on the history aspect much more than the food. You get some treats from a local bakery but those are the only food items offered on the tour.
Learn more about popular landmarks like the 99 steps, Fort Christian, Emancipation Gardens, and more. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos.
This is perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the island, get some amazing photos to save for later, and try some local baked goods.

4. Island Hop & Food Boat Tour
This is the longest and most expensive tour on the list, but it’s also the most unique. You’ll be island hopping all day and making food stops at a pizza boat, floating taco bar, and a beach bar!
You’ll circle the island of St. John and learn more about its history as you can see the British Virgin Islands in the distance.
The first stop is at Lime Out VI where you can swim out to the floating taco bar and enjoy some tacos. Next you’ll have time to snorkel a shipwreck and then enjoy delicious pizza from Pizza Pi.
The final stop includes another opportunity to snorkel or you can head to the beach to relax or grab another quick bite from The Sand Pit Restaurant.
Do note that the only food included in the price is from Pizza Pi – if you want food at Lime Out or The Sand Pit, you will have to pay for that yourself.
Water and sodas are included in the price as are alcoholic beverages on board like beer or the island’s signature painkillers. This is one of the best boat tours in St. Thomas so if you love being out on the water, this is for you!

What Food is St. Thomas Famous For?
There are multiple different foods that St. Thomas is famous for, but here are a few: fungi, Johnny Cakes, Callaloo soup, and pate.
Fungi (foon-jee) is a side dish that is similar to polenta and typically served with fish. It’s a cornmeal mixture that can have small pieces of veggies mixed in or be plain depending on where you get it.
Johnny Cakes are fried pieces of dough that can be served with a meal or enjoyed on their own. Callaloo soup is made from a leafy green vegetable with other veggies to give additional flavor like onions, okra, and peppers.
Pate is similar to an empanada and some people call them meat pies. We tried all of these items except Johnny Cakes on our food tour and it was so much fun to get a taste of the island specialties.
